There's a lot of discussion about educational reform. However, the one that offers, by far, the greatest potential benefit to the children is the one that focuses on developing their creativity. The reason is very simple. The ability to think originally, creatively and critically not only better equips them to deal with the variety of situations they will encounter throughout their life, it is also the means by which they can actualize their authentic selves, leading to richer, fuller, more meaningful lives.

Books

Any book by Dr. E. Paul Torrance
Why Fly? is one of his most comprehensive.
Dr. Torrance found the root flaw in our educational system decades ago. He has worked tirelessly to correct it ever since. The fatal flaw in our educational system is that it attempts to condition children to accept yesterday's answers, without question, to be "externally dependent" rather than prepare them to think independently, critically and creatively, that is, to be "internally dependent".
Any book by Howard Gardner.
The Unschooled Mind describes the essential weakness of our current educational system very well. Dr. Gardner's work parallels that of Dr. Torrance.
Everyday Creativity - Dr. Kathy Goff
A short, easy to read book that gets to the essence of the issue.
The Creativity Force - Dr. Berenice Bleedorn
This book clearly demonstrates how and why creativity is the means of improving our quality of life, individually and collectively.
Discovering the Obvious - Dr. Win Wenger
This book provides "Techniques of original, inspired, scientific discovery, technical invention, and innovation.
The Einstein Factor - Dr Win Wenger
This book provides "Great techniques for unleashing the powers of your mind". It has also been adapted as a taped guided course.
